GRAMMAR JOURNALS
(WARNINGS)
GRAMMAR JOURNAL ASSIGNMENTS:
- Verb tenses
- Passives
- Participial Adjectives
- Modals
- Articles
- Quantifiers
- Subject-verb agreement
- Adjective clauses
- Adverb clauses -- time
- Adverb clauses -- "so"
- Conditions
- Noun clauses
- Gerunds and Infinitives
There are several ways to use these Grammar Journal
assignments.
- You can print out the (blank) journal assignments and (literally)
paste in examples you have cut out from magazines, newspapers,
hard copies of computer files, etc.
- You can open both an internet browser window AND a wordprocessing
document (as described on the FIND
instructions), and then paste examples from the wordprocessing
document into the Grammar Journal page, add comments, and
print out the grammar journal page.
The wordprocessing document can contain examples
you have collected and saved over time (as in Grammar Safari
activities), or any document you would like to look through
(using the "find" function in your wordprocessing program)
for examples.
- You can open TWO browser windows and adjust them so one
is shorter but wider than the other. Then you can move back
and forth between the two windows (by clicking anywhere on
the window you want), finding examples in one window and pasting
them directly into the Grammar Journal page in the other window,
adding comments, and printing it out.
TWO IMPORTANT WARNINGS:
Before you spend a lot of time adding examples
or comments directly to the Grammar Journal pages, TEST to make
sure your printer will print out what you add! With some arrangements
... particularly when several computers send documents to a central
printer ... sometimes only the blank form gets printed out!
Even if you are sure your printer will print out your information,
remember that you will not be able to SAVE information you have
entered into the Grammar Journal pages! Be sure you will have
time to complete the entire assignment in one sitting (or be
prepared to print out several partial assignments if you get
interrupted before you finish.)
