Topic 10: Particularity and Generalizability

Particularity and generalizability refer to how original or how ritualized the interaction is. For example, a task which involves learners telling a story about known past events may be simpler to accomplish than a task which requires students to respond to original questions about hypothetical future events. Thus, the idea of asking students to complete routine tasks before they engage in non-routine tasks may also serve as a useful principle of sequencing (Candlin 1987).
